The Fertility Awareness Method is largely misunderstood. Let’s clear a few things up.

Facts about the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM)

  • FAM is a practice that involves observing and tracking your body’s day to day health signals like temperature.

  • Various forms of cycle tracking have been used for generations across cultures for body literacy, contraception, conception, and spirituality.

  • Cycle mapping has many benefits regardless of your fertility goals or sexual activity. If you are celibate, actively trying to get pregnant, or never want to get pregnant, learning about your body will give you valuable insights into your health, pleasure, and overall well-being.

  • FAM is not simply counting out 28 days for each cycle and estimating ovulation on day 14 (the Rhythm Method). FAM will teach you to map your personal cycle with confidence, not just a general estimate or guess.

  • FAM is science-based. While more research is needed, we have many studies that support the science of FAM and at least one robust study showing its efficacy as a birth control method.
